UGC NET December 2023 Exam : The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ positions in Indian universities and colleges. Here is all the key information about the UGC NET December 2023 exam based on the official information bulletin released by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
UGC NET December 2023 Exam Details
Mode of Exam: The UGC NET December 2023 will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode with multiple shifts.
Pattern of Exam: The exam will consist of two papers – Paper I and Paper II.
- Paper I (100 marks): General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude
- Paper II (200 marks): Based on the subject selected by the candidate
Both papers will have multiple-choice objective type questions. There is no break between the two papers.
Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes) for both papers together.
Exam Dates: 6th December 2023 to 22nd December 2023
Exam Timings:
- First Shift: 9 AM to 12 PM
- Second Shift: 3 PM to 6 PM
Important Dates
- Online Registration Starts: 30th September 2023
- Online Registration Ends: 28th October 2023 (till 5 PM)
- Last date for fee payment: 29th October 2023 (till 11:50 PM)
- Correction in Particulars: 30th-31st October 2023
- Downloading Admit Card from NTA Website: To be announced later
- Dates of Examination: 6th December to 22nd December 2023
Application Fee
- General/Unreserved: Rs. 1150/-
- General-EWS/OBC-NCL: Rs. 600/-
- SC/ST/PwD: Rs. 325/-
- Third Gender: Rs. 325/-
The fee can be paid through credit card, debit card, net banking, UPI modes.
The confirmation page is generated only after successful payment of fee. If confirmation page is not generated, candidates should contact the bank/payment gateway or NTA for resolution.
Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET December 2023 Exam
Educational Qualification:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant subject with minimum 55% marks (50% for reserved categories)
- Candidates in final year of Master’s can also apply
Age Limit:
- JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 1st December 2023. Relaxation for reserved categories.
- Assistant Professor: No upper age limit
Exemptions:
- Candidates with Ph.D. degree are exempted from NET
- Candidates who have cleared SET exams are eligible for Assistant Professor

UGC NET December 2023 Exam Registration Process
- Online registration from 30th September 2023 to 28th October 2023
- Application fee payment through debit/credit card, net banking, UPI etc.
- Upload scanned images of photograph and signature
Admit Card, Exam Centres, Results
- Admit cards will be released on NTA website prior to exam
- List of exam centres provided in Information Bulletin (Appendix III)
- Candidates to select 4 cities for exam centre preference while applying
- Results expected to be declared by 10th January 2024.
